10 Days Of The Sticks

Back from 10 days in the sticks of Ontario for Christmas with my family. While it did have its ups and downs, it was pretty interesting and much better overall than my last visit home. My flight to Ontario was the best flight I have ever had through Toronto. I like how Air Canada has fixed things so I don’t have to run from terminal 1 to terminal 3 and go through security again. <!-more-> Saw a lot of people while I was back. Between the regular Christmas day festivities and bouncing back and forth between various relatives I also managed to see some old friends from high school. Most of this occured on one event, called the Glencoe Gong Show, a yearly invite to dinner that started out with three of us 4 years ago and has grown to almost 20 people out of a graduating class of 62. Most of these people I haven’t seen in almost…..... 5 years now. It was interesting to hear what they have been up to and where they are now. Many are actually working on their graduate degree. One actually has a 7 month old son. It puts some things in perspective (almost done that undergrad degree….... almost…... almost…...)

Christmas time was funny. Of course, some things I am sure no one would believe without seeing, such as the macarena performed to some christmas carols, the fact that Ontario had more snow than Nova Scotia (dear NS, where’s my snow? Really now…. where is it?), and the fact that no one in my family really fought (hey, last time it caused me to stay away for 2 years, this year was smoothe in comparison), but hey, at least I know they happened, right?

One thing I missed was my address book. I had started a personal tradition a few years back to call several people that are important to me on Christmas day. This obviously includes a lot of my friends in Halifax. However, due to the ‘Sean always forgets at least one thing’ syndrome, I accidentally left it behind in Halifax, on my desk, in plain site for when I got back. Ah well…... next year? I’ll get the numbers of the international folk even!

Now, while the flight TO Ontariowas quite smoothe, the PtB made up for it when I was flying back. Delays in Londan AND Toronto. Missing baggage (all of it) due to the fact that they accidentally didn’t put it on the plane in Toronto. Waiting an hour and a half just to get a cab back into the city. Arrived home at 3:30 AM. Not the best of ways to start the new year.

Originally, I was scheduled to arrive in Halifax at 11:55. That’s right, 5 minutes to the new year I was supposed to be waiting for baggage at the airport. A joke somehow started around this (I can’t remember who started it). A master plan to kiss some random girl at the airport at the stroke of midnight. Family joked that I could potentially meet my future bride. My sister Stephanie volunteered to buy mistletoe. However, due to the delays, new years was celebrated at 30,000 feet, and even if I had wanted to go through with that plan, I was seated next to this asian guy, which basically defeated the whole thing by default.

Anyway, I’m back in the city. It’s a new year with a new start. No resolutions at the moment, but I am sure I will tack on 20 goals by the end of the year, like always. Happy New Year everyone.
